Roald Dahl first editions
Collectible Dahl rare books including first edition and signed copies
Roald Dahl (1916-90), novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot.
Famous for his darkly comedic literary inventions written both for adults and children, which included Someone Like You and Kiss Kiss (stories from which went onto form the TV series Tales of the Unexpected) for older readers and such classics of modern children’s literature as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, The Twits, The Witches and Fantastic Mr Fox. Roald Dahl first editions are now considered highly collectable, especially signed or inscribed first editions which can fetch high prices at auction and retail, and due to his cross-generational appeal make excellent gifts.
Many of Dahl’s works have been successfully dramatised for film and/or stage, notably Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda, ensuring his work is constantly being taken up by new generations of readers. He was also a script-writer for several films, including the James Bond film You Only Live Twice (1967) and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968).
