  3. 2 vols, 8vo. in 4s, I: [4], xxvi, 374 pp., with copper-engraved frontispiece; II: [4], 375-775, [1] pp.; bound with 39 contemporary copper-engraved plates, each in two states (two plates appear in three states), and 12 pen and ink drawings dated variously 1821-2, trimmed and mounted, one with copper-engraved portrait inset; later straight-grained red morocco gilt by Noulhac, signed and dated 1918 in gilt at foot of spine, edges gilt, silk endleaves and doublures; minimal rubbing at extremities, otherwise a very fine extra-illustrated set.

Title within woodcut vignette, 118 full-page woodcut medallion portraits by Rudolf Wyssenbach after Rudolf Manuel Deutsch, each within architectural woodcut border, pp. 128 text within woodcut boards, more than 100 figurative initials and ornamental grotesque decorations by Peter Flötner. Contemporary vellum; neat repairs, soiled, internally clean and fresh.

Engraved frontispiece, engraved portrait of Jeanne d'Arc and 18 engraved plates (the so-called 'suite anglaise' by Marillier), tissue guards; mild foxing scattered throughout, ink ownership stamp 'Charron' on blank recto of frontispiece, contemporary blue silk endpapers. Contemporary red morocco, gilt fillet borders to covers, spine with gilt decorative compartments, gilt edges; slightly marked and rubbed with superficial wear to head of spine and one corner.

Fully engraved: hand-coloured title numbered 1, pp. 10 preface in red with black borders, plates numbered 2-30, hand-coloured, each with a leaf or two of text in red within red border; hand-coloured title and 35 hand-coloured plates with text leaves as before - in all 66 hand-coloured plates including two titles. Contemporary marbled calf, spines with raised bands gilt in compartments, brown morocco labels lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers, red edges; a bit rubbed, hinges a bit weak.
