First edition; 2 vols, 4to; 124 hand-coloured plates, occasional mild spotting otherwise very good; contemporary half green calf, maroon lettering-pieces gilt, all edges marbled, mild dust-soiling and darkening commensurate with age, rubbed at extremities, bumper on corners but otherwise a very good set.

5 vols, 4to (29.3 x 24 cm); text in Dutch and French in two columns; with two frontispieces engraved by Th. Koning after J. Buys, including one enhanced in colour, hand-coloured title engraved by C.J. de Huyser, and 442 hand-coloured plates (42 of which are in the Supplement), with 10 titles including one engraved and hand-coloured, and two leaves of subscribers; beautifully bound in full contemporary red morocco (for the first 4 volumes), spines with raised bands, richly decorated, titles, volume numbers and provenance in green morocco, gilt fillets on the boards and on the edges, gilt inner dentelle, all edges gilt, identical pastiche binding for the 5th volume (Supplement); an excellent copy.

First edition; 2 vols, 4to, (329 x 265 mm); complete with 14 lithographic plates, 112 woodcuts, 5 maps, 31 engraved plates of fossils, 9 folding hand-coloured geological sections signed by the author, some pages lightly spotted,second vol contains large, hand-coloured engraved 3 sheet folding map signed by Murchison of 'The Silurian Region and Adjacent Counties of England & Wales, Geologically Illustrated', also containing a 'map of England and Wales, Coloured according to Geological Systems', 28 compartments, (976 x 1633 mm), backed on red silk edged linen, with autographed letter signed 'Rodk Murchison' to the French naturalist Dr Henri Milne-Edwards, asking for an 'account of the Serpulina formed shelly body' for his description of the Ludlow rocks; fine contemporary calf binding with red morocco labels on decorated spine, gilt ruled boards with ornithological motif gilt stamped on upper cover, corners of boards and spine slightly bumped; 768pp, overall a very good copy.

Mitford edition, 2 vols, 8vo (22 x 15 cm); 4 engraved plates including two engraved frontispieces (one hand-coloured in vol. II), some offsetting to title pages, slight marginal spotting throughout, decorated endpapers; restored preserving the contemporary diced calf, spine gilt decorated and lettered, slightly rubbed; pp.viii, 351,364; overall a very attractive set.

16 vols in 8 complete set, 8vo, 576 hand-coloured copper plates, some upper hinges split but still firm, some light offsetting and sporadic foxing, mostly light but heavier in a few instances and in the main, not affecting plates; contemporary green morocco gilt, all edges gilt, a very handsome set.

The second impression much corrected and enlarged. Folio (34 x 22.5 cm), [12], 612, [16] pp., additional xylographic allegorical title-page, numerous full-page woodcuts of plants throughout, a few gatherings browned, last leaf trimmed at foot, contemporary sprinkled calf, rebacked, an attractive example.
