  1. Second edition, 5 vols, 8vo (16.5 x 10 cm), pp. 349, 368, 375, 354, 375; contemporary calf, flat spines in six compartments, red morocco lettering piece to second, black morocco numbering roundel to fourth, gilt ruled, citron edges; slightly scuffed; overall a very good set.

  2. First edition; 8vo (20 x 12 cm); one large folding plate; bound in contemporary red morocco, covers with gilt coat of arms to the centre and detailed vine borders, spine gilt ruled and title, ex-libris and small French customs sticker to front free endpaper, green ribbon marker, blue silk endpapers, minor foxing throughout, all edges gilt, a near-fine copy; [2] 87pp.

  3. First edition, second issue (without the errata to verso of title of vol. II and errors in vol. I corrected). 8vo., viii, 423; ix, 47 5pp., ads to verso of title, 16 pages ads dated January 1871 at end of both volumes, illustrations in text, publisher's green cloth, rules in blind to boards, titles to spines gilt. Contemporary ownership inscription to each front free endpaper, minor rubbing to extremities, hinges repaired, trivial spotting early and late. An excellent set.

  4. First edition, second issue, 2 vols., 8vo., viii, 411, [1], 32; viii, 486, [2]pp., with publisher's lists at the end of each vol., original green cloth gilt, illustrated throughout, neat restoration to extremities, a very good set.

  5. Elephant folio (82 x 60 cm); 39 plates with plate numbers printed in the top right corner (starting with plate 41), light foxing to a few plates, a few plates a little loose; bound in contemporary boards with wrapper attached to upper cover, metal corner protectors to upper and lower covers, wrapper stained.

  6. 3 vols, 4to; each volume with one pop-up diagram and numerous black & white plates and illustrations within the text, some minor toning and a few spots to preliminary and terminal pages, else near-fine; publisher's red maroon cloth, embossed in black, colour variant between vols., mildly rubbed and bumped on extremities, otherwise very good.

  7. 4to; publishers sample, 2 volumes bound in one, with pictorial cloth cover and spine samples bound in at beginning; numerous photographic illustrations, vol II (Atlas) contains 22 card pages, 13 colour pop-up illustrations with elaborate overlays of various steam and diesel motors seen in, amongst others, a steam train, the Wright Brothers' aeroplane, motor-cars, motor-cycle, etc, full index or 'key' for each on opposite page., light spotting and occasional dust-soiling, otherwise good; original green cloth boards, rubbed, bumped, rear joint splitting but holding.

  8. Second edition (enlarged), 4to, 142 pp., 3 engraved plates, contemporary half calf, neatly rebacked, an excellent example.

  9. First edition, 4to, [ii], 68, [1] pp., modern half calf, marbled boards, an excellent example.
