Coloniae [Cologne], Ioann. Gymnicus, 1542
£750

1542 edition of Erasmus' Adagia, published in Cologne by Gymnicus. OCLC lists only three copies of the present edition, all in European institutions.

The Adagia, an annotated collection of Greek and Latin proverbs, was collected and edited by the Dutch humanist scholar Erasmus (1469 [1466ý]-1536) and first published in Paris in 1500. The first collection was a small volume, which through continual amplification and correction (subsequently in the hands of others) became the most monumental and influential collection of proverbs in Europe.

Johann Gymnich (1516-1544) was a noted Cologne publisher/printer, who produced religious works, humanist tracts (by Erasmus, among others), and even the 1520 re-print of Malleus maleficarum (The witches' hammer).
