John Murray, London 1850
£300

This privately bound copy contains a lengthy inscription from the editor's (George Benjamin Maule ( 1811-1850)) sister to the distinguished Victorian engineer William Charles Richman (1812-1886). Maule was a well known barrister and he eventually became Solicitor to the Treasury and was one of Murray's closest friends. He edited three Murray Handbooks and sadly died in 1850 in Spain after a short illness having been badly injured in a landslide. This copy was obviously a gift from his'sorrowing' sister to a friend. An unusual presentation copy

Town plans include Munich, Nuremberg, Vienna and Prague.
