A beautiful copy of this great mock-heroic poem. In it Butler, an ardent royalist, ridiculed the hypocrisy of the presbyterians and supporters of Cromwell; the savage satire of the poem is well matched by Hogarth's ribald 'cuts'.

2 volumes, 8vo., (21.5 x 13.5 cm), 444; 494pp., illustrated with 12 hand-coloured aquatint plates including frontispieces; later red straight grained morocco gilt, spines in six compartments, gilt raised bands, gilt lettered, boards matching spines with elaborate floral tooling, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, a fine set.
