A selection of the rare books we will be displaying at this year's Firsts London Rare Book Fair, taking place this October at the renowned Saatchi Gallery on the King's Road, Chelsea.

  1. First edition; 12m; half-title with advertisement for the Dumpy Books series on verso, 27 full-page colour illustrations after the author printed by Edmund Evans, usual minor finger-marking and occasional light soiling to leaves, overall internally very good; publisher's pale green cloth lettered and blocked in darker green, a little light rubbing and marking but an attractive copy, scarce to find in such condition.

  2. First US edition; 8vo (22 x 15 cm); presentation copy, signed 'V.S. Naipaul for Al Murray' on the title-page; quarter black cloth over green boards, titles in gilt to upper board and spine, a bit rubbed, with the dust jacket, faded and slightly worn, a good copy.

  3. First separate edition; 8vo (220 x 150 cm); original printed wrappers with art nouveau design, internally fresh, slight wear to covers with small loss to top of lower cover, spine glued, a good copy; 62pp, advertisement leaf at rear.

Folio (46.5 x 34 cm), 24 hand-coloured lithographed plates and 2 monochrome proof plates on india paper, colour plates captioned in French and English, all portraits dated 1827, contemporary green polished half calf over marbled boards, red morocco lettering piece, upper cover with green morocco lettering panel, 1 plate (Madon) with short marginal tear, rather worn and rubbed.

Reissue of first edition; 8vo; some light foxing and marginal toning, with some soft creasing and roughening to page-edges towards the end, advertorial endpapers, old repair to fore-edge of front free endpaper; publisher's pictorial paper-covered boards; all edges trimmed, slight rubbing and soiling to binding, mild edge wear, a few tiny spots of soiling; spine ends pushed with a bit of loss at foot, front joint splitting from bottom but sound, lower corners gently bumped, presented in custom brown cloth chemise in brown cloth slip-case, with dark brown leather spine labels stamped in gilt.

  6. First edition, folio (47 x 37.7 cm), title-page and 12 magnificent hand-coloured aquatint plates by R. Havell after Cartwright, plate of Ali Pacha mounted within ruled border, contemporary dark blue polished half calf gilt over cloth boards, lettered in gilt to upper cover, occasional light marginal soiling and spotting, rubbed.

Folio (49 x 33 cm approx.), engraved throughout, comprising: title with preface by Cars on verso, 'Anecdotes' (pp.I-II), 'Explication des figures' (pp.III-XIV), leaf of music (printed recto only), and 102 engraved plates (3 double-page), all with fine contemporary hand-colouring, 30 plates heightened with gold and mica . Bound in full contemporary French red morroco, gilt tooled. Some restoration to spine extremities. A fine example.

First trade edition, first issue with date on title-page and a single-page endpaper repeated four times; 16mo; 27 full-page colour illustrations, title vignette and pictorial endpapers by the author; publisher's dark green boards with inset colour illustration, presented in later cloth solander box.

First edition; 8vo; publisher's orange cloth lettered in blue, mildly rubbed on corners and spine ends, unclipped dust jacket, priced at $2.00 indicating first issue state, spine panel slightly faded with minor rubbing near head and foot, rear panel toned, front flyleaf with rectangle of offsetting (from small former bookmarký), resultant milder offsetting to opposite flap, mild glue(ý) residue from possible former bookplate to front pastedown, otherwise a near-fine copy.

Barcham Green's handmade paper, 32 coloured pochoir plates and illustrations by Paul Nash; publisher's vellum from a design by Paul Nash by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, with brown morocco onlays and gilt-blocked quincunx on boards, gilt edges, original fleece-lined buckram slipcase.
