First edition; small 8vo (165 x 100 mm.); wood-engraved frontispiece, 8pp. advertisements, contemporary gift inscription to front free endpaper, brown-coated endpapers with some wear at hinges possibly due to the adhesive used for the pastedowns; publisher's green cloth blocked in black with gilt title to spine and upper cover and gold medallion containing horse's portrait to upper cover, a little rubbed at corners, slight rolling of spine, but overall very good.

First edition, deluxe issue, number 171 of 250 signed & numbered copies, from an overall limitation of 276; small folio (305 x 225 mm.); original lithographed signed in pencil at end with tissue guard, title-vignette, full-page illustrations and pictorial endpapers, bookplate to front pastedown; original parchment-backed cloth with onset pictorial label to upper cover, very slight dulling to spine, but overall an excellent example, housed in magnetic-locking black cloth drop-back box with inset colour title to upper cover.

    Text: engraved frontispiece by Ingouf l'aîné, title page with engraved vignette by Macret, dedication with engraved head-piece by Bruneau, each part with 3 engraved vignettes (including 2 by Louis-Nicolas Van Blarenberghe), 2 engraved tail-pieces, one engraving by Van Blarenberghe at end, and 11 plates; frontispiece and title with foxing.
    Atlas with 32 double-page plates, including 3 folding, most after Van Blarenberghe (1 and 24 not signed, 21 by Dupuis); a few marginal closed tears. Contemporary full red morocco gilt, spines with raised bands, atlas with gilt arms to covers, gilt edges.

Contemporary full red morocco, large gilt coat of arms of the Russian Empire inside gilt-ruled borders to covers, spine with raised bands, red morocco label with gilt lettering, compartments gilt-ruled, gilt rollwork to turn-ins, red silk endpapers, silk bookmark, all edges gilt, kept in a worn slipcase.

Title, [4] introduction, 27 hand-coloured engraved maps and 55 lithographs on india paper on 31 sheets, each map accompanied with printed leaves of text; bookseller's printed overslip ('Paris [...] Vve. Bouchard-Huzard') pasted onto date of title page, a few maps lightly browned, some spotting, mostly marginal. Contemporary green half morocco, gilt rules to covers, spine with raised bands gilt in compartments, marbled endpapers; neatly rebacked preserving spine, neat repairs to extremities.
