8vo, (16.2 x 10.8 cm); text in Latin and Greek, woodcut initials, some mispagination between pp.237-273, with some page numbers having been changed in early manuscript, contemporary ink underlinings, cross-outs, and marginal and interlinear notes throughout, perforated stamp to title page, a few earlier ownership marks on the front free endpaper, some toning and soiling within; contemporary blindstamped pigskin, metal clasps, white manuscript letting to spine, spine varnished, some rubbing to boards, overall a very good copy; [16], 598 [i.e. 634], 72pp.

First edition thus; 4to, (21.5 x 15.5 cm); woodcut publisher's device to title, woodcut headpieces, woodcut historiated initials, some worming to front free endpaper and title, scattered light toning to leaves (mostly marginal); contemporary vellum, gilt device stamped to covers, gilt lettering to spine on a black ground, some material loss to lower spine label, some soiling and warping to boards, edges toned, corners rubbed, overall a very good copy; [84], 843, [1] pp.

Special edition, signed by the author, number 94 of 300 numbered copies, from a total edition of 310 (10 reserved for the author numbered i-x); 8vo; publisher's plain green boards, presented in matching slipcase, a bright and attractive copy.

First Burton edition, one of 1,000 small paper copies; 8vo; engraved frontispiece by William Blake, title-page printed in red & black with device, browning to free endpapers; publisher's parchment-backed boards, somewhat rubbed and marked, spine browned, uncut.
