Smith I, 5, p. 42), some minor toning and a few spots to plates, portrait of Dickens spotted (as usual) with transfer onto title-page opposite, plate 37 ('The breaking up at Dotheby's Hall') bound out of sequence after p. 620, small closed tears to list of plates professionally repaired at outer margin, very small loss to upper corner of pp. 501-502 (not affecting text); publisher's dark olive green cloth, front and back covers stamped in blind, recased with new yellow endpapers, spine slightly sunned, small closed tear at foot, extremities slightly bumped, othewise very good.

Contemporary half green calf over marbled paper boards, brown endpapers. Foxing to the plates and attendant leaves, edges just a little rubbed. Dickens memorial sticker to front free endpaper. A pleasing copy in contemporary condition.

Limited edition, one of 200 copies on Japanese Ho-sho paper, from a total edition of 350; two parts in one volume; 8vo, (26.5 x 19 cm); text in French, 28 colour woodblock illustrations, including frontispieces, additional black illustrations throughout text, red velvet endpapers; publisher's red morocco, pictorial covers, top edge gilt, gilt lettering to spine, modern dustjacket in red half-morocco, modern red morocco bordered slipcase, overall an excellent copy.

First edition, sole impression, one of 200 copies on 'small paper', from an overall limitation of 225; small 4to (220 x 170 mm); printed in black, green & sepia on Arnold's handmade paper, some with the Vale Press watermark, pictorial title-page and 9 full-page illustrations in sepia, decorative initials printed in green, all by Charles Ricketts, original vellum with gilt designs by Ricketts to covers and spine. Housed in a quarter morocco slipcase. Rockwell Kent designed bookplate to front paste down, very light spotting to some pages, boards a little bowed as usual, gilt to spine rather dull. Very good.
