Uncommon complete portfolio of types from Turgenev's masterpiece by one of the most celebrated Russian illustrators of children's literature. In the present work illustrations are placed along the fragments of text, which is rather complimentary to the charming silhouettes in the German manner used by Bem to depict characters.

Bem (1843-1914) – Russian artist and illustrator, developed her skills at the Drawing school of artists encouragement in Saint Petersburg, where she became a master of silhouette - one of the rarest techniques, especially among children's illustrators. For her work Bem received multiple awards at Russian, as well as international exhibitions.
