The standard English edition of the travels of Marco Polo (1254-1324). He journeyed overland to China and the Court of Kublai Khan circa 1260 and made his return journey c.1271 during which he saw a great deal more of Persia. He returned from China again via Persia in 1292. There is still controversy as to the route taken by him in Persia but it is known that he visited Tabriz, Kashan and Kerman. Marco Polo's narrative was especially important for the Europeans of the day as it was their first account of Persia since the Arab invasion.

Henry Yule based his edition on the Pauthier text, first published in France in 1865. Although aware of its deficiencies and inconsistencies, Yule used this as a basis, which he then furnished with detailed notes from other sources, including the F-text, the earliest available source, and Ramusio's sixteenth-century translation.
