Introduction to this work written by Benzion Netanyahu (1910-2012) Israeli encyclopedist, historian, medievalist and father of long-time Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Benzion Netanyahu served as Professor of History at Cornell University, scholar of Judaic history and Revisionist Zionism movement activist. In the years 1939-1940 served as private secretary to Ze'ev Jabotinsky MBE, with whom he travelled to New York. In 1942 Netanyahu was appointed head of the Revisionist Zionism movement delegation, that lobbied in the United States to support the creation of the Jewish state.

Max Nordau (1849-1923), the Jewish Zionist philosopher who coined the term 'Muskeljudentum' (Muscular Judaism), used to write down his speeches and read them to his listeners from the draft. It was Nordau who drafted the Basel Program at the First Zionist Congress (1897). As a speechmaker,
