First edition, one of 150 copies only; large 8vo (268 x 175 mm.); 5 plates by Charles Ricketts, internally very good; original burgundy morocco, elaborately ruled & blocked in gilt to a design by Ricketts, with his monogram to the foot of upper & lower panel, a little rubbed at spine-ends, but really an exceptional copy, top edge gilt, others uncut.

I with 5 etched plates by Charles Ricketts, 1 engraved bookplate design by William Bell Scott, tissue guards; vol. Sheet size (double-page): c.725 x 520 mm (or the reverse). Watermarks examined include the shiled with sword and fleur-de-lys (Robison 61), a fleur-de-lys with initials (Robison 20 / 21), a fleur-de-lys within a single circle (Robison 18 / 19) however the majority of those present appear to be the fleur-de-lys within a double circle (Robison 33 / 35).
Full contemporary polished calf, rebacked, boards with triple-ruled borders and floral corner pieces in gilt, banded spines with gilt tooling and black leather label with gilt title in nine compartments, turn-ins tooled in gilt, marbled endpapers and edges. Repairs to edges and corners. An excellent example.

First trade edition, signed presentation copy from the author; small 4to (220 x 170 mm.); inscribed by the author to head of half-title, toning to free endpapers, overall internally fine; publisher's green cloth with symmetrical Venetian architectural interior design by Ricketts to upper cover, lettered in gilt to spine, very slight sunning to spine, otherwise a very good copy.
