A translation of Relation d'un voyage fait en 1695, 1696, et 1697, aux côtes d'Afrique, détroit de Magellan, Brezil, Cayenne, et Isles Antilles.

The author was a volunteer engineer and cartographer on board the English Falcon under the command of Jean-Baptiste de Gennes which coasted West Africa in 1695-97 before sailing for the Straits of Magellan for the strategic purpose of having a French presence to prey on the Spanish along the coasts of South America and in the Pacific.

Although the project failed in its primary objective, the narrative provided the first definitive map of Rio de Janeiro, together with highly accurate charts of the South American coast.
