Styles and designs of bookbindings from the twelfth to the twentieth century,

This is one of the best surveys of the history of bookbinding, ranging from a 12th century Romanesque binding to work by Roger Powell. The Broxbourne Library was assembled by Albert Ehrman (1890-1969) and was one of the finest 20th century collections of bookbindings and of books documenting the development of printing. The Broxbourne collection of bookbindings, in excess of 2000 items, was given to the Bodleian Library in 1979 by Albert's son John.
