  1. Folio (361 x 229 mm). Contemporary calf, rebacked with old red morocco spine label laid down, edges marbled, in a red quarter morocco solander box. Engraved portrait by Martin Droeshout above the verses To the Reader on verso of the first leaf, title with fleur-de-lis device (McKerrow 263), double column text within typographical rules, woodcut initials. Covers worn and repaired, free endpapers renewed; first owner's signature on blank recto of portrait causing show-through and a single tiny burnhole from the ink in the hatched background, restored, E6 folded in the press at lower corner and so printed without loss, F3 with tiny split at border rule, 2Hlv with 18 letters neatly supplied by an early hand in pen and ink as a result of light inking in the press, sig. 2H slightly dampstained towards fore edge, 3Z2 with press tear affecting nine lines and partial loss of a word, about five tiny rust holes and about eight natural paper flaws affecting approximately thirty letters throughout, a few very minor nicks, tears and trifling wormholes, all marginal, a few very minor stains; overall, a very good, fresh, unsophisticated copy.

  2. A group of six engravings by J. Mulder, P. Sluyter and D. Stoopendaal after Merian, with later hand-colour, of flowers, fruits and insects from Dissertatio de Generatione et Metamorphasibus Insectorum Surinamensium. Framed and glazed, overall dimensions: 38.2cm by 53.2cm.

  4. Set of 14 copper engraved plates, with beautiful contemporary hand colour (each 18 1/2 x 44 1/2 inches approx.), drawn by Gaetano Savorelli and Pietro Camporesi, engraved by J. Ottaviani.

First edition, 4 vols; folio (46 x 35.5 cm); 8 hand-coloured engraved titles, 4 engraved leaves of dedication, etched initials and head and tail pieces, 437 etched and engraved plates (of which 182 hand-coloured, 77 double-page or folding), last plate in Vol. III with minor worming, occasional minor spotting or offsetting, a few plates slightly shaved, text in French and English in Vols I-II, English engraved title in Vol. III with repairs to verso; handsome modern red morocco to style by Aquarius, green morocco spine labels; a fine set.

Two works in two volumes, folio (550 x 400 mm. approx'); Vedute: the complete suite as listed by Wilton-Ely comprising double-page engraved title, double-page engraved frontispiece, 135 double-page engraved plates (including the 2 plates by Francesco Piranesi listed at the end of Wilton-Ely), the watermarks examined appear to conform to Robison 39, 57, 64 and 67; plate 243 [Wilton-Ely] with paper flaw to the centre fold lower margin, not affecting image; Pompei: the complete suite comprising a double-page engraved plate, a large folding plate and a 6-sheet plan, each sheet large and folding (3 with short marginal tear, repaired, 2 touching text); Extra-illustrated with the following plates: Pianta di Roma e del Campo Marzio [Wilton-Ely 1008]; Prospetto interiore del Tempio Vaticano Il Santo Padre ... Vaticano, both of these by Francesco Piranesi; Near contemporary Russia gilt, the covers with broad gilt borders, neatly rebacked, all edges gilt.
