New York Book Fair 2022

After two years we are absolutely delighted to be exhibiting once more in the Park Avenue Armory.  We have secured one of the key stands for this New York Book Fair, Stand E3, allowing us to bring a wonderful range from across our various departments, a selection of which we present below.

  1. First edition, one of 250 copies on paper; small 8vo (175 x 105 mm.); some foxing; publisher's cream cloth lettered in gilt, partly uncut, a little minor marking & bumping, but overall very good.

  2. First edition, 2 volumes, 8vo, xviii, 412; viii, 468 pp., 12 tinted woodcut plates, 22 woodcut illustrations in the text, folding tinted map, original red cloth gilt, neat repairs to spine extremities, '90' in ink to titles, a very good set.

First edition, printed in Arabic type-set in red and black, complete, small 8vo (165 by 110 mm); Arabic text within ruled borders, key words and phrases printed in red, printed catch-words and wood-block printed devices, ownership and bibliographical inscriptions to front free endpapers (in Arabic and Italian, probably nineteenth-century), clean condition internally; contemporary blind embossed morocco, stamped in gilt with coptic-style central and corner medallions of a floral motif, upper cover a little darkened and soiled, otherwise a good copy.

  5. 4to (25.75 x 21 cm), 111 leaves typed on recto only, finely bound by Riviere & Son for Henry Sotheran, polished half calf gilt, spine in six compartments, green morocco labels to second and third, others richly gilt, raised bands, top edge gilt.

  6. 8vo (98 x 69 cm), lithograph with hand-colouring ,dissected into 25 sections and mounted on linen, minor offsetting and browning, folding into red straight-grain morocco gilt by 'Wickwar Binder London', upper cover decorated with Royal coat of arms and lettered 'Plan of Lucknow, fine.

Limited edition, one of 67 copies on Japon, this numbered 37; 8vo (21 x 17.5 cm); 325pp., 36 compositions in colour after Barbier including the printed wrappers, title-page and vignette, printed on wood by Gasperini, with an additional suite of illustrations of the same composition but in a simplified outline design, printed in red, black, grey or purple, pages cut and in various sizes, blue marbled endpapers, minor age toning but otherwise very fresh; bound in contemporary quarter crushed dark blue morocco over marbled boards with the original wrappers bound in, spine in six parts with raised bands and gilt title to second, in excellent condition.

First edition, limited edition, one of 150 copies signed by Barbier, this being number 20; folio (37 x 29 cm); illustrated half-title with colour wood-engraved design, limitation verso, title with colour wood-engraved Harlequin vignette, 12 full wood-engraved colour plates, text in French by Flament, 2 large vignettes, 22 wood-engraved colour four-line initials as well as decorative devices in the text, engraved by Schmied after Barbier, many heightened in silver and gold, final wood-engraved colour vignette, list of plates and colophon, each leaf of text surrounded by decorative frame, marbled endpapers; original pictorial wrapper bound in, contemporary vellum over boards hand-coloured with oriental floral design, signed 'houy pinxit 1929' on the lower cover, marbled chemise with brown morocco label to spine with matching slipcase, slipcase and chemise slightly worn but otherwise an excellent copy.

First edition, one of 60 copies, from a total edition of 100, small folio (31 x 25 cm); the complete set of eleven engravings by Jean Arp, Hans Bellmer, Victor Brauner, Paul Delvaux, Marcel Duchamp, Wilhelm Freddie, Wifredo Lam, René Magritte, André Masson, Roberto Matta, Man Ray, on handmade Rives paper, each signed in pencil, each numbered from the edition of 60; each housed in separate cardboard passe partouts mounts with protective plastic windows; original publisher's printed boards, an excellent copy.
