First edition; landscape folio (33.5 x 48.5 cm); illustrated tilte-page, dedication, preface, 2 letterpress tables, a 'Profiles of the Skulls' plate printed in two colours, a chromolithographic map, 31 photogravures, with additional pamphlet by the author with blue wrappers, in excellent conidion; unbound as issued within original green cloth portfolio, upper cover blocked in gilt with titling in Russian, white-watered silk lining, cover slightly rubbed.

Contemporary brown and green calf by Petersen, St. Petersburg, upper board gilt ruled, decorative silver elements on boards, the ones on lower board stamped '84; A.F.', some elements with enamel and gilt, green silk interior, 2 ll. folio inserted, manuscript text framed by decorative ornament, signed by members of the Russian company's board of directors, watercolour view of St. Petersburg riverside in upper margin; corners very slightly rubbed.
