The first American edition of Aleister Crowley's classic work on drug use, addiction and methods of recovery, considered by many to be in large part based on the author's own experiences. Crowley's own recreational drug usage, and resultant struggles with addiction, are well known, particularly his dalliances with heroin. In a similar vein (pun intended) to other prolific pioneers of narcotic-fuelled expansion of the consciousness such as Huxley and Kesey, Crowley made a study of drugs and their effects upon the body & mind, experimenting widely, and wildly, upon himself.

First American edition, first printing; 8vo; text-block clean and without ownership markings or occult marginalia, sadly; publisher's black cloth lettered in red, an excellent copy with spine still nicely rounded, blood-spatter dust-jacket, unclipped, worn at corners and spine ends with slight loss, closed tear descending 8 cm from head of spine down upper hinge with no loss.
