II lacks label, spines rubbed, light wear to tops of spines, a very good set.

I with additional engraved vignette title by Bolt after Kinninger (foxed) of the supper scene between Commendatore and Don Giovanni, printed title with attractive ink presentation to upper corner margin, dated 1877) and 2 following pp. of text, engraved musical score 6-292pp, vol. II with printed title and engraved musical score 294-590pp, with separate printed divisional title 'Anhang von spaeter eingelegten Stuecken', some sporadic light foxing and minor staining, mostly to final leaf of vol. I, some leaves trimmed at upper edge with loss to pagination in vol.2 but in the main clean and bright; modern diced calf, upper covers lettered in gilt, marbled endpapers and edges, most attractive.

First edition. 8 volumes bound in 4, 4to, with an aquatint dedication and 308 hand-coloured aquatint plates by and after Daniell bound at rear of volumes, the deluxe issue with all the plates mounted on card, with the frequently missing large folding engraved index map (strengthened to verso), occasional spotting (chiefly marginal), a few plates a little toned, some offsetting from plates to next plate versos, contemporary green half morocco gilt, bound as usual without the uncoloured engraved plate of Kemaes Head Pembrokeshire, an excellent set.

  8. 18 bright and fresh watercolours, most of Scottish Lowland scenery, including coastal loch and sea views, and a few continental lakeside views, each average 17.5 x 25 cm (7 x 10 inches), on stiff wove paper mounted at corners to album leaves, along with several other pencil drawings, two with monochrome washes, by Burgess, including an excellent tree study, and his pupil, Lady Harriett Kerr, 3 initialled by her, mostly further continental landscapes, contained in a half-calf album, 4to. The watercolours in good, clean condition, the drawings generally likewise, the binding rubbed, corners slightly worn, calf spine sunned, cloth boards also unevenly faded.
