A standard printed locomotive engineer's pocket book, in which columns are left blank for the user to enter measurements & weights. According to a loosely inserted short letter and sheet of annotations written by C.F. Dendy Marshall, author of A History of the Southern Railway and other railway books, the details entered into this book are of locomotives belonging to the Great Northern Railway. Fourteen of the double-page charts have been either fully or partially filled in in ink. In addition, there are thirteen exquisite hand-coloured drawings of G.N.R. locomotives. These are passenger locomotives by Sharp, Hawthorne, Wilson, Crampton, Kitson, Neilson, and the Yorkshire Engine Company. C.F. Dendy Marshall's letter is accompanied by an autograph sheet of notes on these engines. Some brief pencil notes in the book which follow the details of G.N.R. engines appear to refer to an Indian Railway, the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway.
