Hacke, who had himself been a buccaneer, here gathers together the adventures of Ambrose Cowley, who attacked Spanish vessels in the West Indies and sailed further south into the Pacific than any of his predecessors, naming some of the Galapagos Islands on the way; Bartholomew Sharp, who looted along the west coast of South America; and John Wood, who served on Narborough's expedition to the west coast of South America and gave an account of the Patagonians.
