First edition; 8vo; frontispiece by Graham Robertson, occasional spotting and browning, slightly worn at extremities, otherwise very good; publisher's pictorial blue-green cloth stamped in gilt, leaves uncut (as published), some marks to binding, head and foot of spine bumped with minor tears, upper joint splitting, otherwise, also very good; preserved in a modern, bespoke dark blue morocco solander box.

First edition thus; 4to (280 x 230 mm); fifty mounted coloured plates with captioned tissue-guards including tipped-in frontispiece (lacking one tissue-guard to illustration opposite p. 38), a further seven black & white plates and 12 black & white illustrations within text, neat gift inscription to blank second front, free endpaper, slight toning to margins of text leaves, else very good; publisher's green cloth gilt, faded and worn, more so to the spine, mild mottling to endpapers, printed dust-jacket, spine darkened, lightly dust-soiled and chipped with losses to spine extremities but otherwise sound.
